Spider veins (also called telangiectasia or venulectasias) are enlarged veins near the skin surface that appear purple, red, or blue. They are commonly found on the legs, though they can also appear on the face and other parts of the body. They can be a result of sun exposure, use of oral contraception, hormone therapy, the aging process or hereditary factors.
