Electrolysis in Victoria

Electrolysis is the only permanent method of hair removal.

Electrolysis uses a tiny probe the size of your hair, which is inserted into each follicle, then an electric current moves down the wire to the bottom of the follicle, destroying the hair root and stopping the cells from producing hairs.

Electrolysis is:

  • A safe and permanent method of hair removal that has been used for over 100 years.
  • Approved by physician and health professionals.
  • Effective for all hair colours and all hair types.

At Olakino Laser + Skin, we do everything to make electrolysis as comfortable and effective as possible. Therefore, we are always happy to invest in the newest, most efficient, most comfortable, and safest equipment. Our latest addition is: the Apilus xCell.

The Apilus xCell uses a 27.12 MHz ultrafast radio frequency that is up to 6 times faster than any other hair removal devices. The Apilus xCell focuses the energy more intensely at the base of the hair, producing 100% permanent hair removal of all hair types.

The Apilus xCell treatment comes with an unparalleled level of efficiency and comfort that is gentle on all hair and skin types. In fact, the treatment is performed so quickly that the sensation is barely noticeable. Mere thousandths of a second is enough to eliminate unwanted hair!

The Apilus XCell is equipped with the Synchro program, which is a patented technique that offers unequaled effectiveness in the removal of deep-rooted and stubborn hair. By offering such a high level of comfort and speed, the Apilus xCell has become the preferred solution to treat all hair colors and all skin types, including the most sensitive areas of the body!

Thermolysis and Blend Methods

At Olakino Laser + Skin we use thermolysis and blend methods of electrolysis treatment.

Thermolysis: also known as short-wave method. Light frequency current travels down the needle and produces heat in the tissue which destroys the hair root. This is a very fast and therefore popular method. Thermolysis has less effect on distorted follicles or in individuals with severely curved hair follicles.

Blend: a combination of the thermolysis and electrolysis currents, offering the advantages of both. The blend combines the sureness of the galvanic electrolysis current with the swiftness of thermolysis current. The blend technique is slower then thermolysis, but is particularly useful for deep, coarse hairs and for curved hair follicles.

FAQs

Yes. While laser provides significant reduction, Electrolysis is the only FDA-approved method for 100% permanent hair removal. It works by targeting each individual hair follicle with a precise current, destroying the root’s ability to ever regrow. It is the gold standard for those seeking a final, lifetime solution to unwanted hair.

Comfort levels vary, but many of our clients find the sensation quite manageable—some even fall asleep during their hour-long sessions. We use an advanced Electrolysis device that sends pulses as fast as one-thousandth of a second, which is significantly quicker and more comfortable than older technology. For those with higher sensitivity, we can adjust the settings or recommend high-quality numbing creams to ensure a painless experience.

Yes, electrolysis is approved by the medical profession, and at Olakino Laser + Skin, safety is our highest priority. Our certified electrologists are fully qualified and follow strict medical-grade sterilization and sanitation protocols. We use a new, sterile, disposable needle for every single client, which is safely discarded after one use. All other tools, including forceps, are thoroughly sterilized in a medical-grade autoclave after each use to prevent any cross-contamination. Additionally, our technicians always wear a fresh pair of disposable gloves for every client.

To date, electrolysis is the only permanent solution to removing unwanted hair.

A Certified Electrologist gently inserts a microscopic, sterile probe into the natural opening of the hair follicle. A mild electric current is then applied to the base, cauterizing the root and preventing future growth. Unlike laser, which targets pigment, electrolysis works by physical destruction of the follicle, making it effective for everyone.

Hair growth is often traced to hereditary factors, and sometimes stress and certain illnesses can stimulate growth. Also temporary methods of hair removal (especially waxing and tweezing), certain drugs and medications or just the normal hormonal changes at different stages of life can increase growth. Sometimes simply a sensitivity to normal levels of hormones can stimulate a hair growth.

Electrolysis is safe for almost any part of the body. We frequently treat the face (upper lip, chin, and eyebrows), as well as sensitive areas like the abdomen, bikini line, and around the nipples. It is a highly versatile treatment for both small, detailed areas and scattered hairs that remain after laser treatments.

Because hair grows in cycles, a series of treatments is necessary to ensure every follicle is treated during its active growth phase. The total number of sessions depends on your hair density, previous removal methods (like waxing or plucking), and hormonal factors. Maintaining a consistent treatment schedule is the fastest way to achieve your permanent results.

Appointments are tailored to your needs and can range from a quick 15-minute touch-up to a 2-hour session. During your initial consultation, we will determine the most efficient session length to help you reach your goals as quickly as possible.

This allows for highly targeted treatments, whether you are clearing a few stubborn hairs or working on a larger area. During your consultation, we will provide a personalized estimate based on your specific needs and hair growth patterns.

Absolutely. This is one of the biggest advantages of Electrolysis. Because it does not rely on pigment to work, it is the only effective permanent solution for white, blonde, red, or grey hairs that laser cannot “see.” It is also safe and effective for all skin tones, including very dark or tanned skin.

What to expect during an electrolysis treatment:

When you arrive for your consultation, we will discuss the goal you want to achieve and recommend the type of treatment best suited for you. Your treatment will be offered in a relaxing atmosphere of a private room. Once settled on a comfortable bed, your technician will begin the treatment length of your choice. Treatment length varies from 15 minutes to 1hours. We recommend a shorter appointment for your first visit. Your comfort is the most important thing to us. We use topical lotions for sensitive areas. Once your treatment is complete, we use soothing lotions to calm the skin.

What to expect after an electrolysis treatment:

For approximately one hour after your treatment, you will have slight redness on the affected area. We recommend using aloe, witch hazel or Celazome moisturizing lotion. It is important after an electrolysis session to keep the treatment area clean to avoid infection.
