Which is better: Laser or Electrolysis?

Laser hair removal and electrolysis are both effective when performed correctly. Laser hair removal works very well on darker hair. Lasers are used wherever possible because they allow removal of the hair in the fastest, most efficient way.

For fine blonde, red or grey hair laser will not be effective and electrolysis is a better option.

Permanent hair reduction can always be achieved at Olakino Laser + Skin using either laser or electrolysis. In many cases, using a combination produces the best results. A treatment plan will be customized just for you.

FAQs

Laser hair removal offers permanent hair reduction. Experts believe 1-5% of hair will not respond to laser treatments. We will permanently remove any of these remaining hairs with electrolysis.

Avoid sun exposure. You cannot wax, tweeze, thread or have electrolysis for 4 weeks before a treatment. To manage hair between appointments, please shave or trim.

After a treatment the skin may be red and bumpy because it is irritated, and this is absolutely normal. We recommend protecting the treated skin from the sun. Avoid hot tubs and saunas for 24-48 hours. The area should be moisturized with clear aloe gel.

After your initial treatment, you should enjoy a significant reduction of hair. However, it will take 2-4 weeks for the treated hair to push its way to the surface and fall out.

The treatment does have a slight prickly or stinging sensation. Most of our clients are able to tolerate the treatment without difficulty. However, every person’s level of sensitivity is different and treatment areas may vary. Our unique Cynosure laser system can quickly alleviate discomfort with a stream of cold air, which is used in conjunction with the laser. Topical numbing cream is another option to combat discomfort.

On average most clients will require 5-8 treatments. Finer hair and dark skin clients may require 6-10 treatments. If you suffer from a hormone imbalance you may require additional touchup treatments.

The general guideline is 4-6 weeks for the face, bikini, underarms, arms and 8-10 weeks for the back, legs and truck of body.

No, for fine blonde, red or grey hair laser will not be effective. We can remove this type of hair with electrolysis.

Intense pulsed light IPL is not a laser per se. It’s an intense light source. What makes IPL different from laser is that in basic terms, IPL is far less effective than Laser Hair Removal. The energy is produced by a lamp, a little like a light bulb, and produces a variety of light waves, meaning that it is more diffuse and less powerful.
